Our Mission
Our mission is to eliminate traffic deaths and improve the quality of life in Halton Region by enabling residents to safely and comfortably use sustainable and active modes of transportation.
Our raison d'ĂȘtre
Safe Streets Halton was created out of the desire for all road users to travel safely. Inspired by the success stories of cities that have eliminated traffic-related deaths and serious injuries (i.e. accomplished Vision Zero), we believe that Halton Region is capable of the same transformation. In order for us to reach that goal, a collective voice is needed.
Our Impact
Protected Bike Lanes by Default on Regional Roads
Successfully advocated for protected bike lanes to become the default standard on Halton Region's urban roads, ensuring safer infrastructure for cyclists across all municipalities.
Advocating for Automated Speed Cameras
Led advocacy efforts to maintain and expand automated speed enforcement programs as a proven tool for reducing dangerous speeding and improving road safety.
Building Cycling Culture Through Community Rides
Launched regular all-ages bike rides to create welcoming opportunities for residents to experience cycling, helping build a culture where active transportation is normal and accessible to everyone.
Provincial Election Platform Review
Analyzed and shared comprehensive reviews of provincial candidates' transportation and road safety platforms to help voters make informed decisions.
Oakville Transit Plan Improvements
Successfully advocated for increased funding and service improvements in Oakville's transit plan, enhancing public transportation options for residents.
Advocating Against Provincial Bike Lane Restrictions
Led community opposition to provincial legislation threatening municipal authority over bike lane infrastructure, defending local control of street safety decisions.
Tactical Urbanism at Alton Public School
Partnered with the school and city to demonstrate temporary street improvements, showing how simple changes can dramatically improve safety and walkability around schools. Discussed parking in bike lanes with parents, and gave free bike lights, bells, and pins to students.
Dundas Street Intersection Safety Improvements
Advocated for and achieved significant safety enhancements over old design during construction of the Sutton and Dundas intersection in Burlington, reducing risks for pedestrians and cyclists over older design. These improvements will be replicated along the rest of Dundas Street in future projects.
Secured Sidewalks for Bromley Road
Successfully convinced Burlington city council to include sidewalks in the Bromley Road reconstruction project, enhancing pedestrian safety in the area.
$500,000 in Annual Active Transportation Funding
Successfully advocated for ongoing dedicated funding for active transportation across Oakville, Burlington, and Halton Region, ensuring sustainable investment in safe streets infrastructure.
Free Transit for Youth and Seniors in Oakville
Helped secure free transit access for youth and seniors in Oakville, removing financial barriers and making sustainable transportation accessible to vulnerable populations.
Municipal Election Platform Reviews
Provided detailed analysis of municipal candidates' positions on active transportation and Vision Zero policies, helping voters understand where candidates stood on safe streets.

Ranked the platforms of provincial parties in regards to active transportation and Vision Zero policies, helping voters understand where they stood on safe streets.
How we work
We act as a group where safe streets and active transportation advocates can collaborate. We commit to being a resource for the public in educating on Vision-Zero strategies. When called upon, we will use our voice as a collective to demand and guide change.
Our Vision
A region with zero traffic deaths and serious injuries. A region where walking and cycling are not only a safe option, but a compelling way of getting around. Kids playing in the streets, neighbours and friends having chance encounters, improved health and cleaner air.
