Vision Zero: The end of traffic deaths.
This is a map of the Halton Region. Each dot here shows where someone was either injured or died.
This isn’t unique to Halton Region. But what is unique is how long it took for action to be taken.
Vision Zero is the goal of eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries. Cities around the world, including in Canada, have been enacting Vision Zero policies to great success.
But not all of Halton’s municipalities have made Vision Zero a focus.
One of the biggest things cities are trying to do is to design our streets better, so drivers move at a speed that’s safe for not just those in the vehicle, but also for those walking or cycling around them.
This can mean dedicated bike lanes, intersection improvements, or making road lanes just a bit narrower. Some of these can be done quickly, by adding temporary bollards or planters until it’s time to renew the road.
Everyone should be able to travel safely, whether we walk, cycle, or drive.
